Just thought I'd add the link from Doug Cripps (ScanSnap sales manager) who posted in the Scansnap community, giving a response as to why and I'll condense it here as well. Scansnap was developed more for a better user experience for the general consumer who may not want or need to deal with a TWAIN compliant scanner's set up process. After reading the post above, here is my condensed version of the information provided in the link below. So does anyone know if we can use a generic Twain driver and a Safe site to download from. Told them we were not going to chance getting some junk on a new pc. I ask had they ever used that site, no they had not. The vendor then did a search for Twain driver (I was not watching too close at the time) and found some site the had 'windows drivers' or something, they were about to click on something to download when I saw what they were doing. Vendor said their software requires Twain driver, we went to ScanSnap site and read the ix500 does not use the Twain and did not have one for download. Vendor tried their software again, still not seeing the ix500. When switching to ScanSnap Home, you can migrate data to ScanSnap Home. Did a reboot and it installed the driver and I could scan. Use ScanSnap Manager (scanner driver) with another software application suitable for your intended purpose such as managing business cards or receipts. The cd did not install, said the software was still on the pc. Vendor recommended to just re-install the software without reboot. Vendor said their software requires Twain driver, we went to ScanSnap site and read the ix500 does not use the Twain and did not have one for download. They said remove the scanner and re-install, I did a remove device and it said it was removed. The software uses the scanner in some of the modules, when we tried to scan it did not list the ix500. Did a couple test scans, working correct.Ĭontact vendor of the proprietary software to have them remote in and install their software. Allowed the download and install of the updates, the S pops up, ready to scan. Did a reboot and tried to scan, did not work, scanner now listed. It wanted to check of update for the software, found updates but I declined to download. New out of box ScanSnap ix500, install the cd, took default everything. I setup a new pc for customer today, win 10 Pro.
